Hawks on Walks
Injured buzzard In May a Common Buzzard was brought in to us which had been injured by flying into a vehicle. I took the Buzzard to Martin Danks. (Whitchurch Road Veterinary Centre 01743 447782 , Shrewsbury, Shropshire SY1 4DT ) Martin diagnosed that the Buzzard had broken its wing, he repaired the wing and it was eventually released back into the wild. I would like to thank Martin for saving the bird, he did not charge for us for his valuble time.
A Happy Ending On 7th July a Common Buzzard was found on the Albrighton Estate by Jeremy Jagger. It was apparent that the bird was suffering from dehydration and hunger from the dry weather. It was in an extremely weak condition and could not stand up. We placed the bird in one of our aviaries and provided it with food and water. Today 14th July the Buzzard was released into the wild.
Kestrel Emergency Rescue On 12th July I was contacted to go and collect a Kestrel from Preston Farm at Uffington. The Kestrel was fitted with anklets and jesses so it had been a captive bird. On examining the bird it was obvious that the right leg was badly broken. I took the Kestrel to Martin Danks. ( Whitchurch Road Veterinary Centre 01743 447782, Shrewsbury, Shropshire SY1 4DT ) Martin kindly took the bird in and treated it, it was discovered that the bird had been shot through the right leg with a .22 rifle. Unfortunately the leg had to be amputated, due to this it will not be able to be released so it will spend the rest of its life at Battlefield Falconry Centre. Again many thanks to Martin for his dedication and professionalism when treating this bird.
